MHDR2022 Flyer

Do you have questions? We have answers. Find out the ins and outs of the Michigan Hoop Dance Retreat below.

Who Can Attend?

Who Can Attend?

Do you have to be from Michigan to attend MHDR?

Most of us are from Michigan, but flow artists from all over the Midwest join us for the weekend.

Do I have to be really good at hooping to attend?

No. MHDR is for every hooper, and all skill levels from beginnger to advanced. Some of our attendees have been hooping less than 1 month when they join us for the weekend.

I’m in high school. Can I come to MHDR?

Sorry. This is an 18 & older event. Due to insurance and liability issues, this retreat is limited to attendants who are 18 years of age and older.

Can my kids come to MHDR?

No children or anyone under age is allowed at the event. MHDR is strictly 18 yrs +.

Can my pet come?

Pets are not allowed at this event. Please leave your nonhuman friends at home, with a sitter, or at a kennel for the weekend.

**You must have a ticket to enter the event. If you do not have a ticket, you will not be allowed to enter the grounds.

Where is the retreat?

Sunset Place Campground
676 W. Dansville Rd.
Mason, Michigan

You do not have to stay at the campground to attend the retreat. You are welcome to come and go as you please. However, if you leave after 10 pm, re-admittance is not allowed until 8 am the following day.

What is included in the retreat?

Camping and workshops Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, wisdom talks, community, the LED jam and fire circle, art. But more than anything, you’ll find your people at the Michigan Hoop Dance Retreat.

You will experience friendships and connections you’ve never had before. MHDR is about so much more than hooping. It’s about feeling like you belong. Like finally, you’ve found the people who get you.

What do I need to bring?

You need to bring camping and sleeping gear, and food for the weekend. There is limited electricity to charge phones. Please plan food accordingly as there will not be a place to plug in cooking equipment. We will have a community campfire available for cooking.

Don’t forget bug spray, sunscreen, lawn chairs, a camp/ground blanket, flashlights, and hoops!

Do you sell guest passes?

Yes! Guest passes are the same fee as the full access pass.

Everyone is invited to attend MHDR. We understand that you have friends, flowmies, and signficant others who don’t necessarily spin hoops. That’s okay! MHDR would still love to have them join us for the weekend. There are lots of things to do, even if you never take a hoop workshop (although we do encourage that!).

There are always a few auxiliary workshops featuring other flow props. There are talk sessions, community games & team events. Each night we host a flow jam and fire circle. The list goes on, but the number one thing people say when asked what they like most about MHDR is the community.

MHDR is a group of friends who feel like family, and most of us have hooping in common. But, it’s not the hooping that makes MHDR special. It’s the family. So join our family. Whether you hoop, or you just love someone who hoops, you are welcome here.

Can I bring my camper?

Yes. We will try to fit you in at Tent City, but you may need to set up your camper in parking.

Is there electricity?

There is limited electricity.

There is a charging station where you can plug in your phone, or blow up an air mattress. The bathrooms have flushing toilets, showers, running water, and lights.

Camping is group style, and electricity does not run to the camping area.

Can I have a bonfire?

We have a group bonfire each night near Home Base. Individual bonfires are not allowed.

Can I bring my dog/cat/pig/goat? What about my emotional support animal?

Pets are not allowed at MHDR. For the safety and comfort of everyone who attends the retreat, we will not make exceptions about pets. We understand your animal is just like part of your family, but for numerous health and comfort reasons, many people choose not to live with animals, and we must respect that.

MHDR accepts all service animals as defined by the ADA. All service animals must be current on vaccinations and registered and licensed in their own community. Service animals must be under the control of the handler at all times. Any service animal who barks excessively, growls, or does not immediately follow the commands of their handler will not be allowed on grounds.

You must have a prescription for an emotional support animal from your doctor or licensed professional for them to be allowed on grounds. All ESAs must be under immediate control of their handler at all times, including barking and growling.

Please email missy@michiganhoopdanceretreat.com with any questions.

Are children allowed at the retreat?

You must be 18 years or older to attend the Michigan Hoop Dance Retreat.

Many of us have children, but MHDR weekend is one to relax and heal your soul. Children are amazing, creative, beautiful creatures – but they need things. Sometimes they cry, and make messes, and have to go to the bathroom, and need someone to feed them and put them to bed.

While we love messes, and there are plenty of tears throughout the weekend, they are messes of joy and tears of connection and breakthrough. You need that to feel whole and inspired, so you can go home and love those munchkins just a little bit harder because you’ll feel refreshed.

Besides, sometimes at MHDR, you need someone to feed you and put you to bed. 😉

Is there a fire circle? Do I need to bring fuel?

Yes. We have a fire circle on Friday and Saturday night. Anyone who spins fire at MHDR is required to take one of our fire safety classes BEFORE spinning fire.

Please plan on donating fuel to our burn circle. We accept full and partial cans of white gas such as Crown or Colemans Camp Fuel.

I can't come any more. What do I do with my ticket?

All ticket sales are final. If you sell or gift your ticket to someone else, please email missy@michiganhoopdanceretreat.com to have the ticket transfered to their name. Please include the recipient’s first and last name, and email address in your message.
